Disneyland's Secret Restroom

Door

The door to the Secret Restroom is self-closing and comforting in its sturdy construction. It was hand-wrought from a single piece of California pine that Walt Disney himself spotted while on a trip up the California coast with his family.

The handle to the Secret Restroom's door has a clever push-button lock built into it. A latch within the handle releases the lock if the handle is turned from the inside, preventing guests from accidentally locking themselves in and giving parents with small children an excellent reason to keep the kids within arm's reach while Mommy or Daddy is using the facilities.

The hook on the back of the door is at a height and of a strength to hold a hat, purse, jacket, umbrella, shopping bag, or some combination of the same. This allows guests to more easily use the facilities in a hands-free manner.

The rather large gash on the back of the door was created when a member of the costuming department who was testing a new hand-piece for the Captain Hook costume forgot to take it off before trying to remove his jacket from the hook, and after rather unfortunately injuring himself during an attempt to use the urinal. It has not been repaired so that it can act as a constant reminder of humanity's frailty.
