Disneyland's Secret Restroom
Middle views
We define the "middle view" of the Secret Restroom as one from far enough away that the symbol on the door cannot be easily made out with average vision, but close enough that someone looking can clearly see that there is a door of some kind there.
The oldest photo we have available of the Secret Restroom -- seen here at right -- is a middle view. It was taken by George Persepolis in 1974 as he and his family sat at a table and ate Fantasia ice cream. "I remember seeing the door and saying to myself, what is that?" says Persepolis. "Ada said, 'I don't know. Take a picture.' So I did."
It's amazing how easy the Secret Restroom is to miss even from as near as this. Disney cleverly places a trash can near the entrance to help disguise it.
Even without the trash can, it's easy to miss the door as it blends into the gentle curve of the nearby wall, and the fence to its left may give the impression that this is some kind of maintenance, operations, or cast-member-only building instead of the most awesome handicapped-accessible restroom around!
The final photo is of the Secret Restroom at night. It's interesting to note how Disneyland manages to both light the Restroom's exterior for safety, and also stylistically de-emphasize it so that it will not attract the uninitiated.
